Yeah, but by … Yeah, but by definition or use of the terms: goth and gothic are two different things, even goth and gothic people say that. It’s not a hard thing to grasp its how people describe themselves cause a person can be goth but not gothic, and vice versa.
Even then dark … Even then dark themes are often labeled to easily as being gothic. There is no such thing really as a “gothic” band, dark metal, doom metal, death metal, etc. Goth Rock, Dark Pop, Dark Punk, etc. Really just cause a person uses dark themes doesn’t make them gothic.
You do realize that … You do realize that goth rock is punk rock, both born in the same age, but labelled differently to escape the dying punk era. They are dark in style but not really gothic, maybe the Bauhaus, or London After Midnight. Goth was originally called Positive Punk.
i like Nightwish, … i like Nightwish, but they are not gothic, operatic metal yes, metal in general yes, but not gothic. I like Emilie Autumn but she is not gothic either, darker style yes, but not really gothic. Groups like Theater of Tragedy, Macbeth, Mortal Love, are gothic metal, and nobody can forget the classic goth rock bands.
Yes, and gothic … Yes, and gothic music has evolved, and now covers a wider range than the Bauhaus. (and i dont need to search for goth any more than you, a different opinion is not ignorance)
Well, those two ARE … Well, those two ARE goth, believe it or not (research, perhaps?) and i HAVE listened to Bauhaus, and Siouxsie & the Banshees, and they were alright. Thing is, thats not the ONLY goth. Its evolved quite a bit since the bat cave days, kinda like how rock doesnt sound like the Beetles anymore? but you cant just deny someones genre. EA and are goth, as are the Bauhaus, as are some gothic metal bands.
Baaah, I’m not … Baaah, I’m not referring to the themes. You think Emilie autumn and mae goth music?? LOL…they don’t. If you want to know what gothic music is try Bauhaus, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Sisters of Mercy, Sex Gang Children, London after midnight (older stuff…)
It doesnt have to ” … It doesnt have to “sound” gothic to have gothic themes in it. The lyrics can have a message that is goth without sounding like… well– whos sound would you consider goth? Android or Emilie Autumn? “goth music” has SUCH a wide range of sound, that its becoming less and less of a distinguishing feature, and is becoming more about the meanings of the songs. where is YOUR research? and Nightwish = metal sound, and BEAUTIFUL classic vocals + gothic themes the lyrics.
Well, they kind of … Well, they kind of HAVE been mixed. You take the metal style of music, and impliment gothic themes. How else would you mix genres?
I think all … I think all VendPrekmurec was trying to say was there were more similarities to goth in metal than in pop… and thats sort of true– there can be darker themes in metal but pop never gets to that point. and also, metal and goth have been mixed but i have yet to see goth pop… nor would i want to
