Projekt has many good sample CDs for sale that can help you find bands you like.  Some personal favs: Razed in Black(industrial), the Cruxshadows(neo-goth), Hungry Lucy(goth), Black Tape For a Blue Girl(ethereal), and VNV Nation(industrial).

I live in SF, so there are good places for music here, but still I usually go on line for my music.  Here are two good sites:
